Lorsqu’Issa Mbaye Diary Sow (1947, Talbakhlé), alors jeune berger peulh, profite de la pâture de son troupeau pour s’essayer au nianiooru (ou riti), il ne sait pas encore que son engouement dictera le cours de sa vie. Cette nouvelle passion pour ce « violon » aux sons mélancoliques lui a été transmise par son oncle. Aujourd’hui, et après avoir collaboré entre autres avec l’Orchestre National du Sénégal, Baaba Maal, Malick Pathé Sow, Youssou N’dour… Issa est devenu un représentant incontournable de cet instrument emblématique de la musique peulh. Dès son arrivée en Belgique, ce musicien au grand cœur montre un grand intérêt pour les différents répertoires musicaux et types de violons qu’il rencontre. Cette fascination lui avait déjà valu l’amitié et la complicité musicale d’une icône belge de l’instrument, Wouter Vandenabeele (Ambrozijn, Olla Vogala…), avec qui l’enregistrement d’un album n’était qu’une suite logique. C’est même une quinzaine de violonistes qui l’ont rejoint dans son projet. Le résultat : un CD qui se concentre particulièrement sur la musique d’Issa et sur le répertoire traditionnel d’Afrique de l’Ouest, tout en assimilant une foule d’instruments, d’artistes et de sons emmêlés, issus de son sympathique entourage. On y retrouve une vingtaine de musiciens ; ni plus ni moins que Malick Pathé Sow, Bao Cissokho, Oumar Ka, Mola Sylla ou Abou Diouba. Une musique de toute beauté aux rythmes envoûtants.

When Issa Mbaye Diary Sow (1947, Talbakhlé) first played the nianiooru (or riti), he was a young Fulani shepherd. Each time his herd was grazing, he would start at the “violin”, developing a passion for the melancholic sounds he had heard his uncle play. He did not yet know that it would dictate the course of his life. Today, having collaborated among others with the National Orchestra of Senegal, Baaba Maal, Malick Pathé Sow, Youssou N'dour... Issa has become one of the stellar players of this emblematic instrument of Peulh music. Upon his arrival in Belgium, he showed a keen interest in many different musical repertoires and different types of violins. This fascination quickly earned him the friendship of a Belgian musical icon of the instrument, Wouter Vandenabeele (Ambrozijn, Olla Vogala...) with whom recording an album was only the next logical step. A dozen violinists have joined him in the project. The result is a CD that focuses particularly on the music of Issa and the traditional repertoire of West Africa, but has a variety of instruments, artists and sounds. There are about twenty musicians, such as Malick Pathé Sow, Bao Cissokho, Oumar Ka, or Mola Sylla Abou Diouba. Music in all its beauty, pure and rhythmically haunting.

Toen Issa Mbaye Diary Sow (1947, Talbakhlé) als jonge (peulh) herder zijn kudde de weilanden in stuurde, profiteerde hij ervan om ondertussen de nianiooru (of riti) uit te proberen. Hij wist toen nog niet dat deze bevlieging zijn leven verder zou dicteren. De nieuwe passie voor deze " viool" met zijn melancholische klanken werd aan hem doorgegeven via zijn oom. Vandaag, en nadat hij heeft samengewerkt met het Nationaal Orkest van Sénégal, Baaba Maal, Malick Pathé Sow, Youssou N'dour... is Issa een onmisbare vertegenwoordiger geworden van dit emblematisch instrument van de peulh muziek. Vanaf zijn aankomst in België toont , deze muzikant met een groot hart, een brede interesse voor de verschillende muziekrepertoires en types van viool dat hij op zijn weg tegenkomt. Deze fascinatie heeft hij ervaren via de vriendschap en de muzikale complexiteit van een Belgisch icoon van het instrument , Wouter Vandenabeele ( Ambrozijn, Olla Vogala...) met wie hij een plaatopname maakt. Dit is het logisch gevolg van hun muzikale reis. Er worden een vijftiental violisten betrokken in hun project. Het resultaat: een cd die zich concentreert op het bijzondere aspect van de muziek van Issa en op het traditionele repertoire van West Afrika, dit geassimileerd in een verscheidenheid van instrumenten, artiesten en verwarrende klanken, afstammelingen van zijn sympathieke omgeving. Een twintigtal muzikanten verleenden hun medewerking, niemand minder dan Malck Pathé Sow, Bao Cissokho, Oumar Ka, Mola Sylla of Abou Diouba. Een muziek van een ongewone schoonheid met betoverende ritmes.
