Where space soothes and expands, this music creeps in. Deep, sober and generous, attentive to oneself and to others. Once again, Tristan Driessens has chosen good partners, Cypriot violinist Michalis Kouloumis and Catalan multi-instrumentalist Miriam Encinas, to set off on the paths in search of the parts of the world where shepherds and sultans are similar to ourselves. Elegance is meant to be shared.
This album presents a blend of original compositions in the Ottoman classical style and anonymous rural dances from Cyprus, with the trio seeking to unite classical and folk music. The passage also highlights how folk traditions are deeply rooted in daily life and draw their expressiveness from a cyclical journey of constant transmission and renewal, giving them legitimacy in time and space.
