Swing, waltz, bossa nova, song: the repertoire is original and varied. Daniel Willem’s quintet oozes a maturity and openness typical of enduring music groups. The warm sound of the leader's violin, Tchavo Bergers' accordion, the rhythms of Popso Weiss and Sylvestre Berger, Patrick Willem's bass and the fabulous solo guitar of Samson Schmitt, all contribute to the creation of this specific musical world. The phrases of the violin and guitar mingle, complement each other, disagree and finally unite in harmony on the blue pillow. The interventions of saxophonist Daniel Pollain and harmonicist Thierry Crommen add new colours to the whole ensemble. The Daniel Willem Gypsy Jazz Band also distinguishes itself from other Gypsy Swing groups through their songs in Romanes or French: sometimes sensitive, sometimes loud and swinging, they confer a captivating and joyful texture to the album.
